Overview
Being Irish i love to write about Irish companies and their technology. Airtricity is a company that builds renewable energy by onshore and offshore wind farms. right now they are producing around 400MW of energy and are working on adding another 400MW while currently generating enough electricity to service 38,000 commercial customers. Airtricity is currently working on plans to implement a Supergrid to supply power for many EU member states.
Technology behing Airtricity Wind Farms
Airtricity uses large offshore and onshore wind turbines with voltage source converters called HVDC transmission. These turbines are capable of producing 3.6MW of energy and 5MW of energy each for the planned Supergrid. With the Supergrid, a mesh network will be able to allow trading between national markets and handle the currents that older DC generation could not offer in a mesh network. The HVDC is scalable from 500MW to 1,000MW offering 100% more capacity at 25-33% more cost.
Impressions of Airtricity Wind Farms
First thing that comes to mind is 100% green. Yes that means no CO2 emissions; will be able to cut down on global warming and help the end the further depletion of our glaciers to maintain the balance our world needs and us as humans to continue life on our planet . Energy-Electricity generating companies are the single largest source of CO2 by the means of fossil fuels. Using the mother earths wind energy is a technology that in my consideration is a no-brainer, there is so much wind out there to harvest and its very economical to implement while being a renewable resource. this will keep costs down and as the systems grow larger we will not have an energy crisis.
